Transforming a Cowshed into a Cozy Cottage: Jeelek’s Latest Farm Conversion Success

At Jeelek Electrical Services, we pride ourselves on delivering seamless project management and exceptional craftsmanship, and our latest renovation is no exception.

Earlier this year, our team was approached by a client seeking to convert an old outbuilding on their farm into a fully functional living space.

While some initial work had already been carried out, the project had hit a roadblock when the client discovered that nothing in the structure was level or plumb. That’s where Jeelek and the team stepped in, ready to turn a challenging starting point into a stunning final result.

Before we started...

Overcoming Challenges to Create Perfection

Our first step was to make the necessary adjustments to the work already carried out, ensuring that everything was structurally sound and level. With the groundwork secured, we set about transforming the old cowshed into a beautifully appointed two-bedroom, one-bathroom living space complete with a kitchen diner, utility/pantry, and modern amenities.

Here’s a snapshot of what we accomplished:

  • Electrical Installation: We completed a full electrical overhaul, installing LED downlights for energy efficiency, feature electric wall radiators, an electric water heater, an electric shower, and mains-linked smoke detectors to meet safety standards.
  • Plumbing Coordination: While the client’s trusted plumber handled plumbing installations, Jeelek oversaw the process to ensure seamless integration. This included fitting supplies for a kitchen sink, washing machine, dishwasher, and a new shower room with a basin, W/C, and shower cubicle.
  • Insulation & Stonewall Repairs: The entire property was insulated for comfort and efficiency. We also repaired the original stone walls, preserving the building’s rustic charm.
  • Plastering & Finishing Touches: Pat Walsh expertly plastered and skimmed the interior, creating a flawless base for decoration. Our team followed up by painting and decorating to the client’s preferred color scheme.
  • Joinery Mastery: Pat Kelly, our talented joiner, meticulously installed reclaimed flooring supplied by the client, as well as new skirtings, doors, and a bespoke kitchen. His attention to detail truly brought the space to life.
  • Tiling: Paul Johnson of Victorian Tiling added the perfect finishing touch with beautifully laid tiles, enhancing the kitchen and bathroom’s functionality and aesthetics.

Every detail, from the reclaimed flooring to the energy-efficient lighting, was carefully considered to create a warm, functional space.
