This project was part of a larger refurbishment initiative we undertook on this beautiful period property, aiming to restore its charm while ensuring it meets contemporary standards of comfort and efficiency.
The existing shower room bore the hallmarks of a bygone era, with its 1980s style suite and tiles clashing with the Victorian character of the property. The first step was to remove these outdated elements and strip back the damp and mouldy wall and ceiling plasterboard, along with the compromised stud work, down to the brickwork and joists. This thorough removal was crucial to address decades of water damage and to prepare the space for a robust refurbishment.
Once the room was stripped back, we treated the walls to prevent future damp issues. The existing flooring and joists, which had suffered extensive water damage, were replaced with new, sturdy joists and flooring. This foundational work ensured a solid and secure base for the new shower room. We then installed new stud walls and moisture-proof plasterboard, creating a resilient framework to support the room's new features.
To bring the shower room into the 21st century while respecting the property's heritage, we concealed all new pipework within the stud walls. This clean installation served the new shower, a wall-hung washbasin, and a wall-hung toilet with a concealed W/C flush panel.
A particularly thoughtful addition was the handy niche within the shower area wall, providing a convenient space for toiletries, complete with an LED lighting strip for both functionality and ambiance. The shower tray was seamlessly integrated into the floor, which was beautifully tiled to create a cohesive and elegant look.
We installed a high-level, large rain effect circular shower head for a luxurious showering experience, complemented by a sleek handheld shower attachment for versatility. This combination ensures that every shower is both indulgent and practical, catering to the needs of modern living.
The electrical circuits were completely rewired back to the new consumer unit, with all circuits protected via RCBOs for enhanced safety. We installed new LED downlights to provide bright, energy-efficient illumination, along with an illuminated mirror to add both style and functionality.
To enhance comfort, we included electric underfloor heating beneath the tiled floor, ensuring a warm and cozy environment even on the coldest days. A dual-fuel towel rail was also installed, providing the convenience of warm towels year-round.
This project was a true collaboration, involving some of the finest tradespeople in the industry. We worked with A&B Plumbing and Heating, who provided their expertise in plumbing and heating solutions. Paul Johnson of Victorian Tiling brought his skill and artistry to the tiling work, ensuring a beautiful and durable finish. Pat Walsh handled the plastering, delivering smooth and pristine walls and ceilings.
Our own team from Jeelek Electrical Contractors, including the dedicated project manager Keith, ensured that every aspect of the electrical work was executed to the highest standard. Keith’s meticulous project management ensured that all tasks were coordinated seamlessly, resulting in a smooth and successful refurbishment.
The completed shower room is a perfect blend of Victorian elegance and modern luxury. This project highlights our dedication to quality craftsmanship and our ability to manage and execute complex refurbishments, ensuring that every detail is perfect.
